I don't think anyone meant to be judgmental, I certainly didn't. I just thought it would be a good idea to clear up the misunderstanding about where the word "bum" was used.

BUM WITNESSES
by The Searcher incan anyone save me the stress of listening to the self-appointed faithful & discreet slave for 3 hours, and give a clue as to roughly at what point in the proceedings was the derogatory term 'bum witnesses used, and by whom?
i'd really love to extract that comment and send it to a weakening witness, to highlight the judgmental arrogance and name-calling being displayed.. many thanks in advance folks!.

Exactly - I'm not sure where that poster got that from, because it is for sure not in that part of the discourse.

Sorry Spash - the term was used - just not in the context that was reported by the other notetaker. I have written out an exact transcription of the excerpt that was towards the end of the program. It was meant to bring some levity to the meeting, but he was a member of the GB and he did end up insiutating that "southern brothers" are guilty of this. Here's the quote:
After the distribution of the Bibles, this was the quote about "Bums":1 Cor 7:39 - In original NWT English (in death) is in brackets, the
committee wanted to acknowledge we added these words. You will notice in your revised Bible, it has been established for decades there's no
brackets, don't need them, but they did add in other translations, see it becomes a real problem because we want to convey the correct meaning
because it involves our relaationship with the author of the Bible. So one American Bible - Union Version said this, translated this way: "But if
her husband be fallen asleep, she is at liberty to marry whom she wishes". Because in the original Greek it was not in death, it did not say
that. The Greeks didn't have a problem with this.Imagine a woman has a bad marriage this guy, you know what, every day is agony, and she reads
the American Bible Union Version. Her husband has fallen asleep she's at liberty to be married to whom she wishes."The next time that BUM falls
asleep, I'm gonna go marry someone who will take proper care of me. It's in the Bible." Steve says we have some southerners here - let me tell
you I've heard such things down south, cause you know I'm an adopted southerner I love all of you, but you know what I'm talkin' about down
there. Sorry Steve. (Much laughter) -

Interesting email from a lurker
by Fading Begins ini received an email from a member who is not comfortable posting yet, says for now he just lurks - but he/she made a very interesting comment about the gb giving instructions to the elders about making adjustments.
here is an exact quote: "for all you brothers that have responsibilites giving talks, public talks on the platform, assemblies and convections coming up, you have some work to do.
you are going to have to relook at those scriptures you are using, and make some adjustments in whatever it says from the bible.

You are going to have to relook at those scriptures you are using, and make some adjustments in whatever it says from the Bible. And we know you will do that. And ones coming this week, you will have a lot of work to do right away, and some of us will have a little more time than that." I want to copy the email so I will submit this and come back. Thx
Here is the email sent to me:
i'd like to thank you for this report. sime of us were not sure if anyone would get the meeting on tape or relay its contents somehow...thank you kindly!!!!
now, it took me a few pages but i found it!!! the subliminal new light, that is...the cyrptic message by the fds, if you will. that i dont think anyone has picked up on...yet i SEE IT CLEARLY, when this was posted in your thread:
[If we love Jehovah have to love new Bible. We will be drawn to it. Brothers must revisit popular scriptures and make adjustments using new Bible.]
Do YOU see the actual new light that is hidden among the verbage?
Hint: just WHAT are the "popular scriptures"? Yet, more abundantly important, what POLICIES did those scriptures manifest into?
EXACTLY! The are going to readjust those scriptures in order to manifest "new light" into the most deadliest of wt policies: the refusing of blood transfusions.
Astounding, isn't it?
So thanks again for your contributions here.I think this a really great observation. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a directive from the GB to BOEs to make sure they understand these specific "revised" scriptures, and how they affect "new light" on old policies. A subtle way to set up the rank and file to see these "adjustments" are from Jehovah, so again can't be questioned.

Beginning of Electronic Assemblies?
by Fading Begins indo you think this could have been an experiment to see how smoothly these events can be processed, and what the reaction is from the rank and file?
it would sure save a lot of money if events like this could replace at least the one day circuit assemblies.
there has to be some recognition that the "flock" is becoming weary and they don't have the funds to be travelling to these events.

Bob - I'm curious why you think assemblies are such big money makers for the borg. I know when we went to DC we were less inclined to leave any contributions, as were more interested in leaving asap, and no one new one way or the other. As far as the new releases, they could still do that as they did for this annual meeting. I would think brothers would have more impetus to donate money for the literature at these smaller events as more eyes are watching. I was considering the expense of renting, insurance, liability etc. That would be already covered at Kingdom Hall venues. Interested in your thoughts.

Plus everyone is always impressed when they have members of the Governing Body participating.

Recording meeting
by Fading Begins infirst 30 min announcing a collection of bibles collected from r & f that is to go on display at bethel.
also accounts of how they "miraculously" received bibles that they didn't think they could get - eg.
geneva bible.. now - watchtower study review as there is no meeting tomorrow..

Sister-proof was referring how durable the new bible is and after they tested binding glue etc., then they made a joke that it was "sister-proof", I guess insinuating that sisters are much harder on their bibles than brothers.

AGM - A bum witness???
by Jaidubdub inso what the hell is a bum witness??
who came up with that one?.
-
Fading Begins
Actually, when you hear the recording you will see that one GB member had a real funny bone and he was actually making a joke. He also mentioned "jokingly" that he was a adopted southerner. Both comments were when he was talking about the scripture that made it sound like it was ok to divorce someone when they were sleeping - one of the reasons why they needed this new "revised" edition.

Your welcome. I have the actual recording of meeting if anyone is interested. I could upload it tomorrow if anyone is interested. It's pretty close to what I typed here. Missed a couple of scriptures here and there.
